Maurice Pritchett, founder of Pritchett Associates has been an active member of the In the Upper Room family for over a year and is now taking his television outreach to the next level. I write this post with a heaviness in my heart. My great friend, Anthony "Bill" Carter, recently passed away after a long and valiant bout with cancer. Bill was a very special man. He had a deep reservoir of spirituality. Bill never hesitated to share his knowledge, experience and talents. He was not one to brag about how smart or skilled he was, nor was he one to belittle anyone else about individual short-comings. This gentle and kind man knew how to bring out the best in those whose lives he touched. I would venture to say that Bill gave of himself unconditionally. One of his favorite sayings was, "Work done, then forgotten." I believe what he meant by this was that we do our best and leave the results up to a Higher Power. This was something that I found to be quite liberating. It freed me from the binds of jealousy, envy and other forms of malice. Simply put, Bill was not one to worry. He did his best and was comfortable in having an acceptance of himself and others. Bill accomplished much during his walk on this earth and I am humbled to be called one of his proteges. Carrying on the legacy of such a great man is truly and honor and quite a challenge indeed. There will only be one, Anthony Carter. People like him only come around once in a blue moon. In memory of Bill, I only ask that those who read this post take a moment to reflect upon and to explore the depths of your own soul.

In the Upper Room is one of the longest running television programs on local Comcast Channel 28 in Wilmington, Delaware. We have had celebrities, elected officials, local talent, educators and even our state's governor, Jack Markel as guests on our program.

In the Upper Room has always been on the cutting edge of politics, social issues, religion, arts and entertainment programming, dating back to the days of our founder, the late Sister Dottie Neal and former hosts, Anthony and Terri Carter.

Our work has only just begun! Currently, In the Upper Room is working with Pritchett Associates in tackling the critical subject of bullying at school. Pritchett Associates was founded by Mr. Maurice Pritchett, CEO and his wife Juanita.

Anti-Bullying Insight

Most of us have encountered bullying at some point in our lives. Either we were the bully, the target of the bullying or a witness to someone else being bullied. Whatever the circumstances, there are no winners when it comes to bullying.

Bullying comes in many forms. It might appear by way of the tough acting kid who takes all of his classmates' lunch money, or maybe it shows up as the so-called popular girls ganging up on the shy studious one who happens to wear braces and glasses.

Bullying does not end after graduation. No, it can follow a life-long pattern that endures far into adulthood. One can find bullies in his or her neighborhood, workplace, social club and unfortunately, bullying can even be found in one's place of worship in the form of preachers or church officials who shame or pressure people into giving more than they can afford.

Some basic characteristics of bullies are as follows:

They have a strong need to dominate and subdue other people and to get their own way
Are impulsive and are easily angered
Are often defiant and aggressive toward authority figures
Show little empathy toward others who are victimized
If they are males, they are physically stronger than other males in general

One thing the bully and the target of bullying have in common is that they both need help.

The Corporation

Really in need of a good laugh? Come on out this evening and check out "The Corporation" a funny little theatrical project for the 2009 Fringe Wilmington short film competition. This clever film includes a cast of characters that includes the In the Upper Room family and a few of their good friends. I assure you, you will be surprised and entertained by the shear wit of the actors and the irony of the plot. I am giving this film a hearty five stars and hopefully, a blue ribbon.
